May 26, 2009 11:07 PM PDT
We're back to talk about the Moore League teams that keep showing up in the playoffs, and the Laker team that doesn't.
May 14, 2009 12:03 AM PDT
We took a little break and now we're back, ready for the playoffs!!! 00:45 What is wrong with the NHL, and how an we fix it?
April 19, 2009 08:37 PM PDT
It was a long weekend at the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, and before we go to sleep for a day or two, JJ and Zoomy tell some stories from the weekend and pick their NBA Playoffs bracket. It's the only place for Long Beach sports talk, it's SportsNight, only on LBPostSports.com #78: Grand PrixView
April 13, 2009 08:28 PM PDT
That's right, it's race week here in the LBC and we've got all the info you need to enjoy the race including videos, articles, and this episode of SportsNight! 00:00 Grand PrixView
It's the one and only SportsNight, where JJ is still trying to convince Mike and Zoomy that MLB April baseball matters... #77: Baseball Opening Day
April 06, 2009 11:46 PM PDT
One thing is ending, as we say goodbye to March Madness, but another is beginning as we (read: JJ) welcomes MLB opening day with open arms. Plus we roll through all the usual local Long Beach news!
April 01, 2009 09:24 PM PDT
All the hoop talk you can handle, plus SportsNight has all the Long Beach State games you should be at this weekend and a Moore League Spring segment with Millikan Baseball coach Scott Glasser. #76: March Madness Chatter
March 29, 2009 06:59 PM PDT
Is it just us, or are these bracket games falling horribly short of last year's classics? We answer that question, as well as what the Dirtbags and LBSU softball team did in the last three days, and what it means for their season. Baseball season is in full swing, so step into the box with LBPostSports.com and the one and only SportsNight! #75: 75? Yep, 75!
March 26, 2009 02:39 AM PDT
SportsNight just turned 75, and to celebrate...we went to Smooth's to talk about local sports for an hour. Which is pretty much how we always record the mid-week episode--but this one's special! Really! Table of contents:

March 19, 2009 01:18 AM PDT
When JJ's away, the Mike and Zoomy will play. Wait, that's mice. Oh well--it's another jam-packed week here in Long Beach, with Long Beach State softball, tennis, volleyball, and baseball firing away, and Poly on the road to its fourth straight state championship. But of course, none of that matters since March Madness is upon us. Table of contents:

March 15, 2009 11:09 PM PDT
Not to be downers two shows in a row, but...man last week sucked. Millikan got bumped, Long Beach State saw the BLR and the men's basketball team go down in flames, and the only good news was a Poly victory in a game with 84 total turnovers. Well, there's men's volleyball and softball at Long Beach State, too, so things aren't all bad. We talk about all these subjects, do the fastest ever PT slam, and the imminent onset of March Madness. March 09, 2009 01:36 AM PDT
We're not used to losing in this city, so when we do, it all seems to happen at once. One of those "rains, it pours" things. With two Moore League teams in the CIF Finals and Long Beach State basketball chasing a conference title, one team was bound to win, right? Never fear sports fans, SportsNight is here... 00:00 Intro (CIF basketball/soccer Finals)

February 26, 2009 03:28 AM PST
Happy Thursday, Long Beach—while you're making up your mind as to what you want to give up for Lent, may we suggest that you leave SportsNight off your list? We're live via tape delay from Smooth's downtown, as we talk about the Long Beach Sports Mount Rushmore (hey, ESPN stole it from us first, okay?), a new 5K through the Long Beach State campus (with 5K organizer Alex Merlina on to talk about it), a Long Beach State update, and a conversation about the NFL…in February. We have a sickness, alright? We admit it. No high school rundown this week because we recorded before the game, but fortunately if you're reading this you can click to the front page and check out all the stories, photos, and video from Wednesday's CIF action. 0:00 Intro/Mount Rushmore

This is SportsNight--this is what we do!

They somehow manage to work their way through Moore League chatter, Long Beach State memories, a very different kind of PT Slam, and a Top 5 Off the Field. This whole thing is a gem, to be completely honest, but if you want to skip to your favorite segment, here's your cheat sheet: 4:40 Moore League Talk
It's SportsNight, brought to you by National Satellite, Long Beach's home for the NFL Ticket--give 'em a call at 1-888-464-1950 to get hooked up, and tell 'em SportsNight sent you! SN Spec.: LB PONY World Champions!
September 19, 2008 12:16 AM PDT
They won a World Championship, and have been honored by the Long Beach City Council, the Armada, the Angels, and next week, the Dodgers. But the Long Beach PONY All-Stars received their greatest recognition tonight when they sat down with your local SportsNight idiots. We talk to three coaches, four players, and one waitress, about baseball, high school, and Thomas Walker's impending presidential candidacy (he's got our vote). The interviews took place at Smooth's, after a jointly hosted parade down Pine in a Big Red Bus. Great stuff! So great you'll want to listen to all these interviews...but if you don't, check out the time guide below if you want to skip ahead. 2:38 Coach Ken Jakemer
It's SportsNight, brought to you by National Satellite, Long Beach's home for the NFL Ticket--give 'em a call at 1-888-464-1950 to get hooked up, and tell 'em SportsNight sent you! Wed. Edition: Previews of This Week's Games
September 17, 2008 05:20 PM PDT
You know the drill by now, right? It's Wednesday, and that means we're laid back, since all this week's action is still ahead of us. We preview this week's Moore League football and LBSU action, do another week of fantasy drafts (Zoomy is balling JJ and Mike up), and tell you about the parade we're throwing this week, for the Long Beach PONY World Champions. This episode's beats courteously provided by local talent and Poly student, Tarzan. You can check out more of his stuff at myspace.com/tarzanbeatz. It's SportsNight, brought to you by National Satellite, Long Beach's home for the NFL Ticket--give 'em a call at 1-888-464-1950 to get hooked up, and tell 'em SportsNight sent you! Chargers: Robbed! And the Ultimate Football Weekend!
September 14, 2008 10:48 PM PDT
It would be easy to get somber around here. After all, JJ and Mike have gotten about 14 hours of sleep in the last three nights, and the Chargers were victims of a highway robbery. And yet...we're surprisingly upbeat! Why? Because we've all been covering football games for the last three days, and it's been pretty amazing. We'll talk NFL, Moore League, and then give you an LBSU update as well as a thunderous Telegram Slam. This episode's beats courteously provided by local talent C-Note. You can check out more of his stuff at myspace.com/cnote562. It's SportsNight, brought to you by National Satellite, Long Beach's home for the NFL Ticket--give 'em a call at 1-888-464-1950 to get hooked up, and tell 'em SportsNight sent you! Wednesday Edition: Moore League Football and LBSU Previews
September 10, 2008 10:44 PM PDT
It's our second week in a row of two episodes a week! This week, we do another fantasy wrap, and JJ and Mike try to pretend that Zoomy didn't whomp them first week...which, admittedly, he did. We also preview this Friday's Moore League matchups, and the upcoming LBSU soccer matches. This episode's beats courteously provided by local talent C-Note. You can check out more of his stuff at www.myspace.com/cnote562. SportsNight's Funniest Episode of All Time
September 08, 2008 01:05 AM PDT
The Chargers lost to the Panthers, and we need to blow off some steam. So we console ourselves by mocking tailgaters, Oklahoma City, Tom Brady, and...Frosted Flakes. All these things are true, and all of them are in our funniest Top 5 Off the Field EVER! Also, we chat about the NFL, Moore League football, and give you a less-funny but very informative Long Beach State rundown. It's a full episode, with guest stars Serge, Shar and Matt, and beats by our new beatmaster Tarzan, a Poly student who's kicking us some fresh noise for your ears. You can see more of his stuff at www.myspace.com/tarzanbeatz. It's SportsNight, brought to you by National Satellite, Long Beach's home for the NFL Ticket--give 'em a call at 1-888-464-1950 to get hooked up, and tell 'em SportsNight sent you! Wed. Edition: Previews of This Week's Games
September 03, 2008 10:43 PM PDT
Yep, we're officially doin' it twice a week. We hope you like that, because we're planning on keeping it up for the forseeable future! For this week, we've got previews of LBSU volleyball and soccer, and this Friday's Moore League action! All that plus the start of our fantasy experiment, three lead pipe locks, and the return of.....THE TELEGRAM SLAM! More Long Beach sports talk than you can shake a hockey stick at. It's SportsNight, brought to you by National Satellite--for a great discount on NFL Ticket, call 1-888-464-1950 and mention SportsNight. Football! Preview of NFL, College, and Moore League

SportsNight Episode 45: Where'd the Olympics Go?
August 25, 2008 11:05 AM PDT
Wait...it's over? Shouldn't someone have warned us this was coming? Your SportsNight crew, plus soon-to-be-frequent-guests Serge and Vinny G, wrap up the Olymipcs for you, including a rundown of how all the Long Beach Olympians did. Here's a hint: We win. We also have some season previews of Long Beach State Women's Soccer and Volleyball, and everyone's favorite feature (whether they like it or not): Top 5 Off the Field. SportsNight: We are the Olympic flame. Episode 44: Olympic Fevaaaaah!
August 19, 2008 01:14 AM PDT
Do you got it? Cuz we got it bad, baby: Olympic fever! Is it the world records falling left and right, the amazing storylines, or the fact that there are a number of Long Beach athletes absolutely playing out of their minds? To be honest, it's all of them--but especially that last one!
Episode 43: Olympic Kickoff!
August 11, 2008 12:48 AM PDT
Yep, we've got more Olympic coverage here than you can shake a stick at, including a rundown of how our dozen-plus local athletes are doing (hint: undefeated!), as well as the top stories from the Olympics at large. All that, plus the return of Serge, and a Top 5 Off the Field? No wonder we're called the Phelps of local sports podcasts! SportsNight Episode 42: We Get the Hook...
August 05, 2008 01:53 AM PDT
That's right, it's a jam-packed summer doldrums kind of week, with Olympics, football, Manny, and much much more to talk about. Plus the departure of our old friend--and original SportsNight co-host--Ryan Kobane, who makes a special appearance, and makes us run on so long, we actually get the hook! On our own show! Can you believe it? It's SportsNight--less painful than a good friend moving to New York... Episode 41: Too Excited For Our Own Good
July 29, 2008 02:03 AM PDT
Back from the AVP and Comic-Con, the SportsNight boys do their regular weekly thing bringing you all the latest news in Long Beach sports, including some heartbreaking Olympic news, a very special game of the week (if you think it might be an eating contest...well, you're right), and more Top 5 Off the Field than you can shake a stick at! SportsNight just went pro, folks. Thanks for riding with us! SportsNight Episode 40: Over the Hill? Nah...
July 22, 2008 12:02 AM PDT
The SportsNight crew is back once again, with Long Beachian Olympians updates, reports on Hall of Fame season, more mockery of Oklahoma City, and an argument about the ESPYS at the top of the show that cannot be missed. We'd go on about ourselves, but really, we're 40, and it's coming on nap time... Episode 39: Funniest Episode Ever
July 15, 2008 12:00 AM PDT
You read it right, the guys who often forget how to pronounce their own names are dropping a comedic gem right into your laps. We laugh our way through HR Derby news, Olympic talk, a Fight Night in the 'Myd report, and the best ever Top 5 (Top 5! (Top 5!)) Off the Field segment. Stat Boy says we have a verbal typo: when JJ talks about the Yanks crowd boos Evan Longoria, pretend he says Chase Utley. The bastards did boo Longoria, though...maybe they have a gripe with Long Beachians. Anyway, in tribute we've eliminated the PT Slam. Let he who is without error cast the first Slam... Episode 38: Here Come the Olympics
July 07, 2008 11:49 PM PDT
Your boys are back with more news on Long Beachians (Long Beachians?) in the Olympics, an analysis of Long Beach State's basketball schedule, some NFL updates and tall tales, and the return of the PT Slam. Believe us, it's a doozy. All that, plus we mangle the Olympic theme song, Mike blows a no-hitter for the Dojers, and much, much more. Easter egg: we rearranged the seating order this week. Can you guess who's where? Episode 37: The Doldrums!
July 01, 2008 12:49 AM PDT
Yes sports fans, we're forced to confront an unpleasant but inescapable fact: there's not a lot going on right now. Still, we dug deep and uncovered some Long Beach Olympic news, discuss who the greatest Long Beach athletes of all time are, and try to figure out how to pass the time before football season starts. Plus a can't-miss top 5 off the field and...THE MOST DANGEROUS SPORTSNIGHT SEGMENT EVER RECORDED?!?!?!? You know it! Episode 36: The Moore League Awards!!!
June 22, 2008 09:58 PM PDT
That's right, you read that big ol' title correctly, it's the first annual SportsNight Moore League Awards! We hand out hearty rounds of applause to the best coach, team, player, and program of the year, as well as a few special awards and plenty of healthy debate. This is a don't-miss episode! SportsNight Episode 35! Father's Day Edition
June 16, 2008 12:10 AM PDT
Happy Dad's Day, all you dads and kids; we hope you had a good one, filled with golf, racing, and basketball (and maybe some Special Olympics action?). Your boys have you covered with coverage of all the above mentioned events, as well as CSULB NCAA Championship news, and a Moore League Awards update. Check it out for your listentainment! Thanks to Dan le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip, Morning Outside of Provo, and our Garageband Jazz Classics for this week's music. If you've got a band you'd like promoted through the show, holler at us! Episode 34: June Gloom Goes Boom
June 09, 2008 12:23 AM PDT
Think just because there's no games going on we won't find something to talk about? Wrongo! We've got CSULB and Prep news as usual, plus our experiences at a few different banquets honoring Long Beach athletes, and some great stories from JJ about hobnobbing with the rich and famous at ESPN the Magazine's Revenge of the Jocks launch party. Plus, top 5 off the field! Sports Night: it's indispensable. Episode 33: All Dreams Must End

If Long Beach is truly the city of champions, this week proved it. The Sports Night crew rounds up all of the city's goings-on, including one regional state champ, two national champions and two National Players of the Week. With all of this local success, why do some of the city's sportswriters choose to write about Bill Walton and WW2? We don't know either. Check out all of the games you can't miss this week, including our Game 'O Da Week and an invitation to Get On Da Bus! Plus our top five stories off the field and the worst warm up music of all time! February 22, 2008 01:46 AM PST
Jason Leffler drives the red/black #38 Toyota for Braun Racing in NASCAR’s Nationwide Series, but he was born and bred here in Long Beach. Leffler was honored Wednesday night at Smooth’s Bar & Grille for his career achievements in all forms of racing, and his helmet and racing suit will be hung on the walls alongside other local racing greats (including driving legend and Leffler’s mentor, Parnelli Jones!). Leffler took some time out to sit down with me and discuss Saturday’s race in Fontana, growing up a racing fan in Long Beach and the city’s best streets for driving. The audio is a little diffivult to hear due to a packed house at Smooth's, so you may want to read the transcription at lbpost.com to follow along. Thanks, and good luck on Saturday Jason! Sports Night: Episode Eighteen

What... a... game. Oh, you didn't think that the Sports Night crew was just going to have a normal Super Bowl party, did you? The LBPOST.com and Sports Night co-hosted a Super Sunday party at Smooth's Bar and Grille down on Pine and recorded a live, hour-long special Super Bowl edition available here! The place was packed and jumping with Giants fans (or Patriots haters). It was truly a family affair, with Mike's (prophetic) mom, J.J.'s dad and Ryan's dad all in attendance and joining us on the podcast. We also stepped aside for a ladies' segment hosted by Mike's wife Shar, J.J.'s girlfriend Tracy and Ryan's girlfriend Nikol, who offered some suggestions on how we should fill our Sundays now that the NFL season is over. Plenty of predictions, updates and game reactions, plus some very special interviews with former Dirtbag and current Devil Ray third baseman Evan Longoria, Smooth's owner John Morris on local sports legends and his thoughts on the NFL in Long Beach, and a quick word and announcement from LBPOST.com creator and publisher Robert Garcia. In Mike's words, "We hope your Super Bowl was half as fun as ours... but it wasn't." Peace! Sports Night: Episode Fifteen (!!!)

Episode Ten comes at you on location from the Pyramid directly after the game, and includes postgame quotes from head coach Dan Monson and two-guard Donovan Morris, who poured in a career high 26 points in the win. Similarly, the LBPOST Sports Night podcast reached a milestone with its TENTH EPISODE! It makes this episode a must-listen for anyone who missed the TV show while it was on air. Plus! Three big announcements (one of them is that we have a call-in lie now, call in! 206-984-1503). Poly snuck out of Compton with the 42-14 victory, but J.J. and Mike explain why the Jackrabbits' 73rd consecutive Moore League victory wasn't as simple as the score would indicate. Sports Night also welcomes long time friend Conor, fresh from a trip across the pond with tales of the fever of European rugby. Also, why does a local sportswriter claim that Poly's winning streak is a bad thing for Long Beach sports? Sports Night sets things straight. Sports Night: Episode Three

Podcast SummaryWe're a bunch of guys that won't shut up about sports. The program began at Long Beach State's weekly newspaper and lives on even after graduation. We employ resident experts (and sometimes just our buddies) to answer the big questions: Is that QB helmet sticker green or yellow? Do sports commentators have better memories than goldfish? And is there anything on Earth better than Long Beach sports? (Green, no, and no) About SportsNightThe famous Sports Night podcast makes its triumphant return to the airwaves with its partnership with LBPOST.com. J.J. Fiddler, Mike Guardabascio and Ryan ZumMallen began the program as writers with Cal State Long Beach's Union Weekly newspaper. But as the hosts graduated from college, so too did the program - from the office of a student newspaper to the primetime. Fans of this ShowFavorite LinksSportsnight's Friends
